Helping capable people work with more freedom and purpose
There are many reasons you may be thinking about starting your own business.
Maybe it's something you have always wanted to do. Maybe you're looking for a new challenge. Or maybe you've spent a long time in corporate life and are now ready to work independently on your own terms.
Whatever your reason, I am here to support you in taking those first steps.
A change of direction
It was a cold February evening when I gently tucked our beautiful first-born into her cot.
As I dimmed the light and stood watching her peacefully drift off to sleep, I started contemplating the looming end to my maternity leave. I realised just how much I was going to miss being with her and experiening all those “first” moments that stay-at-home parents enjoy.
I trudged downstairs to join my husband for dinner.
And then…everything suddenly started to fall into place in my mind - I could start my own business and get the best of both worlds!
Yes, it was a bit of a scary thought that I would be leaving my secure job, but I believe that sometimes you just have to trust your gut and go with what feels right for you at that time in your life. I knew I could make it work!
And so began my small accountancy practice. I set up an office in our spare bedroom, and paid the teenager next door to deliver leaflets around the neighbourhood.
It was an exciting day when the phone rang and I secured my first client!
I was able to use my hard-earned finance skills to work part-time from home when that wasn't really a "thing". And it served me really well with a growing young family.

That's not the end to my story. As life has evolved I've had other changes of direction along the way.
And I now have nearly 40 years of experience of running businesses large and small to share with anyone who is looking to start that journey.
BSc(Hons), BFP, FCA
I am a qualified ICAEW Chartered Accountant and Business Finance Professional. I trained with a Big 4 international accountancy firm where I learned best business practices.
For nearly 40 years I have been working with businesses both large and small, most recently as Head of Finance for a multi-million pound consultancy which I joined when it was a start-up.
I have run my own accountancy practice, looking after local enterprises and sole traders, and I have helped friends and family with their small businesses, giving them hands-on support and advice.
I'd love to share with you what I've learnt to support you on your own business journey.
